My New Icon

I have always admired the simple, sophisticated and chic fashion sense of women such as Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, Jackie O, and more recently Angelina Jolie. These women exude femininity to the fullest, giving off a more mature and clean look for others to envy. While I do look up to fashion innovators such as Patricia Field or Cameron Diaz, who take risks when it comes to trends, those who are acquainted with me know that the one color that dominates my wardrobe is none other than the simple, chic ,(and thinning) black.

Over the past year; however, I have come across a woman who I believe should be at the top of my list in the category of simple chic. Not only am I adding her to the list, but I am also calling her my new fashion icon. Her name ladies and gentleman is Katie Holmes. Becoming a wife and a mother, as well as stepping out of the shadow of her quirky TV character Joey, Katie Holmes has not only restructured her closet (as well as her bank account) she has redefined what it means to be a woman.

On her recent stay in Berlin, many photos capture a stylish Holmes walking the streets with Suri. Both dressed to impress, Holmes hits the mark by wearing the now trendy wide leg pants. These Roland Mouret plaid pants with an over sized belt and navy top, make for the perfect afternoon wear in the park. The pants accentuate Holmes' long slender frame adding even more height to statuesque legs. Katie also wore wide leg gauche pants by Phillip Lim, while out in the park with her family. Completing the outfit, she had a white shirt with a gray vest on top.

While in Berlin, Katie donned one of my favorite looks: all black with colored flats. She pays homage as she takes on a very Jackie O look complete with over sized glasses and a short sophisticated bob do. The skirt, by Yves Saint Laurent, could have been paired with a lovely black belt, but with it, it would have taken away the essence and beauty that the skirt possesses.

Lastly, I would like to comment on Mrs. Cruise's lovely evening wear. Whether she is leaving a steakhouse, going to a fashion show, or welcoming every one's favorite soccer family to the United States, Katie Holmes always manages to come out shining. In this most recent attire in St. Tropez, France, Holmes is wearing a short, sequined black dress by Matthew Williamsson. It is casual, yet chic and embodies the glamour that St. Tropez offers.

So there she is...my fashion icon. I truly hope Katie Holme's continues to grace us with her ever growing style. She has shown us ladies that while we might be hesitant to grow up, there is no need to fearwhen you look fabulous and classy doing it.
